I’m a student and a working musician, so its always been hard for me to find time to work out. Matt was very helpful in encouraging me to make time, as well as teach me proper technique for lifting, and was never shy about answering my questions. He’s a very supportive and helpful advisor. On top of helping me in the gym he also gave me some very good advice on diet. I’m in the best shape of my life since working with him, and the techniques that he taught me carry on today. Now that my form is better I haven’t injured myself at the gym since. I have passed on what he taught me to others, and they all agree that it has been extremely helpful. I strongly recommend him to anyone who is looking to get in shape.
I met Matt in our first semester at college in 2008. Coming out of high school I never had any formal lifting or training other than the general athletics training I obtained in high school varsity sports. After talking to him and learning about his approach, I knew he would be the person to help me excel and reach my goals.
Before we hit the gym for the first time he explained all the logic behind his style of training, the importance of nutrition, and how they fit together. His methods of teaching were very well thought out. He was able to provide stern, yet confident knowledge while making sure he did not go too deep into the technicalities which could easily confuse someone new to working out. He always made sure that I had goals and gave me advice in small increments as I progressed mentally and physically. As I became a more adamant lifter I realized the strategy involved in his tactics to help me reach my goals. It really came down to his passion for the sport and his ability to translate his knowledge to others.
I’m very happy to say that I had reached all of my goals and I owe a great deal of that to Matt. He improved my lifting techniques, gave me countless new exercises, and helped me understand the science behind dieting, all while keeping me motivated and pushing me to my limits. Despite that my body type was always naturally skinny, he helped me increase my weight from 130lbs to 150lbs while keeping me lean along the way. My strength also increased dramatically as I started out bench-pressing roughly 135lbs on the barbell bench to being able to complete reps with 225lbs in the time I spent with him. I also noticed a greater deal of quality mass on my entire body.
I cannot thank him enough for all of his help, and I know he will put fourth the same effort to help anyone reach their goals.
I have trained with Matt for the past 4 years and during that time period I have learned a great deal about weight training and how to live a healthier life style. He showed me the importance of a proper diet and how much it can affect your performance both in and out of the gym. In addition to the diet, he demonstrated the importance of changing up your weight training routine to keep it fresh and exciting. Most recently, focus has shifted towards endurance training through triathlons with the ultimate goal of being able to complete a full Ironman. I am happy to say the training plan is going great and I feel confident moving towards that goal. I would recommend Matt to anyone as a personal trainer due to his great knowledge, willingness to help, and the results I have personally seen over the years.
